Normally at this time we at HiTech Creations like to take you down Memory Lane and tell you about one of the World War II battles that we find interesting, and we are going to do that shortly with a quick summation of the Battle of Fort Capuzzo; we are also going to familiarize you with a few features on our Aces High website to help you navigate your way and learn more about this great combat flight simulator.
So let’s get started. Today’s battle occurred at Fort Capuzzo, a fort located in Italian Libya near the border with Egypt. Shortly after Italy declared war on Britain, the British Army captured Fort Capuzzo in early June, 1940. Why was this fort important? All locations in that area were important as both sides in the war sought to maintain control of the Mediterranean Sea.
Anyway, the fort was re-captured by the Italians a few days later in another attack. In December the Allies captured it again during Operation Compass, but on April12, 1941 Rommel re-captured it once again. Back to the Axis Powers it went during another attack only to be re-taken during Operation Crusader in November, 1941. During the Battle of Gazala the Axis took it again and the final control rested with the Allies following the Second Battle of El Alamein. Busy little place it was!
