As we at HiTech Creations continue our timeline of World War II, today we will take a look at the month that started it all for the United States.  We are, of course, talking about December, 1941.  As the month began, few in America could predict how much life would change in a mere seven days.

• 1^st…Administrative Order 9 is passed creating the Civil Air Patrol for U.s. Coastal Patrol.
• 2^nd…Prime Minister Tojo rejects peace feelers from U.S.
• 3^rd…Conscription in UK includes men between the ages of 18 and 50.
• 4^th…Winter in Moscow show temperatures of minus 31 degrees F; German attacks stall because of bitter cold.
• 4^th…Japan continues to move naval and army forces towards Pearl Harbor
• 5^th…Germany gives up on attack of Moscow, falling eleven miles short of the city.
• 6^th…UK declares war on Finland
• 7^th…Japan attacks Pearl Harbor and declares war on the United States.
• 7^th…UK invades Thailand and British Malaya
• 8^th…The United States, UK, Netherlands, and New Zealand declare war on Japan.
• 8^th…Japan takes Gilbert Islands and attack Thailand in Battle of Prachuab Khirikhan
• 9^th…China and Australia declare war on Japan
• 11^th…German and Italy declare war on the United States, and the U.S. does the same to Germany and Italy.
• 12^th…Japan lands in Philippines.  U.S. and UK declare war on Romania and Bulgaria.
• 13^th…Hungary declares war on U.S. and UK
• 14^th…UK cruiser HMS Galatea is sunk by German U-boat
• 17^th…Battle of Sevastopol begins
• 18^th…Japan lands on Hong Kong Island
• 19^th…Hitler becomes Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the German Army
• 20^th…Battle of Wake Island continues
• 22^nd…Arcadia Conference is held in Washington D.C. between U.S. and UK military and political leaders.
• 24^th…American forces retreat to Bataan Peninsula
• 25^th…Hong Kong surrenders to Japan
• 30^th…the first Liberty Ships are launched as part of a growing supply system for U.S.

What a month!  For the first seven days all was normal for the United States.  Then, all hell broke loose, and four years of bitter struggle followed.  We at Aces High hope you are enjoying this timeline of the different months of WWII.  From the number of flight sim gamers we have, we are guessing that a great number of you will find this as interesting as we do.
