Do you know why the B-29 was called “The Superfortress?”  The name is derived from its predecessor, the B-17, which was known as the Flying Fortress.

Did you also know that the B-29 had a few advancements never seen before including a pressurized cabin, an electronic fire-control system and remote-controlled machine-gun turrets?

A bit surprisingly, the B-29 was designed for high-altitude strategic bombing, but most of its work was either for firebombing or low-altitude night-time incendiary bombing missions.

And of course, one of its final missions during WWII was carrying the payload for Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
