WWII History

So what is happening in our special events arena for the remainder of this week? Glad you asked and the answer is as it always is: a lot!

Tonight at 10 p.m. EST we have an AHXARL; then on the 23rd we will be holding a Snapshots at 10 p.m. EST, and the week ends (or a new week begins) on Sunday with a SEC: Jeep Racing.

These are highly popular special events so sign up early and join the fun. Just one more reason why Aces High is the number one combat flight simulator on the market.

Aces High is adding its first tank destroyer, the M-18 Hellcat. The M-18 was the fastest tracked AFV of World War 2 with a top speed of over 50 mph and had a 76mm M1A1 for firepower, the same gun used on the M4A3(76). Its weakness was that it was quite vulnerable to enemy fire with its open top turret and thin armor. Players would be wise to use speed and cover to outflank and ambush opponents and avoid slugging it out with other tanks.

This is just another update and addition that will keep Aces High at the top of the list of World War 2 Flight Simulators.

Completing the P-40 Warhawk lineup, we now have the P-40N, the last variant of the P-40 production line and the most-produced of the P-40s. The paint scheme of this aircraft is “Lucky” flown by Lt. Richard West of the 35th Fighter Squadron of the 8th Fighter Group. This is a great looking skin and kudos go out to Cactuskooker for designing this skin for a great realistic look.

We keep updating Aces High because we can; we promised to make one game and one game only and make that game the best combat flight simulator on the market and that is exactly what we intend to continue doing.

And forward we go in our in-depth look at battles that occurred during World War 2. Today we will take a look at the Battle of Overloon which was fought between September 30-October 18, 1944, between the United States, Great Britain and Germany.

And why are we doing this? Simply because we are students of World War 2 and by being students it allows us to continue amending Aces High so that it remains fresh, challenging, and the best combat flight simulator on the market. So let’s get to it.

In September 1944 the Allied forces were intent on advancing to the Rhine and in so doing bypassing the Siegfriend Line and taking a clear shot at Berlin. In their way was a division of the German Army near the city of Venlo and as the Allied forces approached a rather heated battle ensued. The Allies suffered heavy losses during this engagement but eventually won this battle on Dutch soil.

When all was said and done the Allies lost 1,878 men, three aircraft and forty tanks, a rather heavy tank loss in the only tank engagement in the Netherlands. The Germans lost approximately 600 men and an unknown number of tanks. After the battle the Allies had to stop, rest, re-group and wait for reinforcements while the Germans retreated towards Berlin. To historians this battle will always be remembered as one of the bloodiest and most heavily contested of all the battles in World War II, but to most people this battle is unheard of and certainly rarely shows up in accounts of World War 2.

At HiTech Creations we believe that each and every battle fought in World War 2 has value and should be remembered. To the 2,500 men who lost their lives this battle was quite real; to their surviving families and to the citizens in the Netherlands this battle was quite real. If Aces High is to continue to be the number one World War 2 Flight Simulator on the market then we need to continue and study the war so that our flight sim is as realistic as it can possibly be.

We salute the brave soldiers who participated in this battle and the hundreds like it. We can only hope that our flight simulation game, Aces High, serves as a symbol of respect from us to you. Strap on your helmets and fly the skies with Aces High.
