Have you been following along with our Timeline of World War II?  Hopefully you have, and hopefully you enjoy it as much as we do at HiTech Creation, home of Aces High!

Today, before we begin with the timeline, we want to give a shout out to any living Veterans who might stumble across this posting.  You have our utmost respect for the way you served your country.  We are fully aware that our freedom depended upon your actions during that war, and we will forever be in your debt.

Now let’s move on to October, 1943, and let’s see what happened during that important month.

• 1^st Naples is freed from German military occupation by the Neapolitans.
• 3^rd Churchill appoints Lord Louis Mountbatten as commander of South East Asia Comman.
• 3^rd Germany conquers the Island if Kos.
• 4^th Free French Forces liberate Corsica
• 5^th Allies cross Italy’s Volturno Line in their advance.
• 6^th The Naval Battle of Vella Lavella completes the second phase of Operation Cartwheel.
• 7^th 98 American civilian prisoners are executed on Wake Island
• 9^th U.S. VII Corps arrives in Europe
• 12^th Operation Cartwheel begins the bombing of Rabaul
• 13^th Italy declares war on Germany
• 14thThe Second Raid on Schweinfurt suffers huge B-17 losses; bombing is suspended until P-51 fighters can accompany the bombers.
• 18^th Chiang Kai-shek becomes president of China
• 19^th German War Office orders 12,000 V-2 rockets from Mittelwerk factory
• 22^nd Bombing of Kassel causes huge firestorm that last seven days
• 25^th Russia takes Dnipropetrovsk
• 28^th Cruiser HMS Charybdis is sunk by Germany; 21 Rn and RM’s wash up on shore.
• 29^th Troops replace striking dock workers in London
• 31^st Heavy rains in Italy slows Allied advance.

And so it goes!  The momentum of the war had shifted to the Allies by this time in history, and the systematic destruction of Germany and Japan was well under way.

Also on the 18^th we have our FSO, or Friday Squad Operation, Frame 3, and then on the 20^th is our SEC, or Sunday European Command, and that will be Frame 2.

No matter your skill level, Special Events are a great way to immerse yourself in the Aces High community.

As we continue our series of timeline glimpses of months in World War II, we at HiTech Creations would like to give a shout out and a word of gratitude to the brave men and women who served this nation during that war.  As we go about our busy days enjoying our many freedoms, it is important for us to remember that those freedoms were dearly paid for by so many who are no longer with us.  This article is for all of you, and for all who serve today for our country.

Aces High is all about realism; otherwise we would not continue to be the best combat flight simulator on the market.  We’ve been doing this for over thirteen years so obviously our approach is working.

With that out of the way, let’s turn our attention to the events of October, 1942.

• 3^rd First successful launch of the A4 Rocket out of Peenemunde, Germany
• 4^th Great Britain invades Sark, a Channel Island
• 6^th Allied strategy determines that the U.S. will bomb during the daytime and the RAF at night
• 7^th Third Battle of the Matanikau begins
• 11^th Battle of Cape Esperance, near Guadalcanal. U.S. defeats Japan in this battle, sinking one cruiser and several destroyers
• 12^th Russia ferries troops across the Volga into Stalingrad, further hindering the German advance on that city.
• 13^th Japan heavily bombs Henderson Field on Guadalcanal
• 14^th German U-boat sinks ferry SS Caribou, killing 137 people
• 18^th Hitler issues Commando Order, ordering all captured commandoes to be executed immediately
• 18^th Admiral Halsey is given command of the South Pacific naval forces
• 21^st Heavy RAF bombing over El Alamein
• 22^nd Conscription age in Britain lowered to 18 years.
• 23^rd Second Battle of El Alamein begins as Allies heavily bomb German positions
• 24^th US Navy Task Force 34 leaves Virginia with Patton’s forces for Operation Torch, the landing in North Africa.
• 25^th Rommel returns to African battle after his replacement dies of a heart attack. Rommel himself is ill.
• 26^th Battle of Santa Cruz.  Japan loses many aircraft and two carriers.  The USS Hornet and Enterprise are sunk and damaged, respectively.
• 29^th Japanese continue to reinforce Guadalcanal.
• 31^st British make breakthrough with tanks west of El Alamein.
