We have a busy first full week of January, so let’s mention a couple Special Events you might want to partake in.

On the 8^th we have our weekly AHXARL, or Aces High XTreme Air Racing League.  Then on the 9^th we have our Snapshot, and this week it is called Down & Dirty!

These two special events are held almost weekly and are a great way for you to play against the best flight sim gamers in the world.

Are you ready for a new look at one of the months of World War II?  As you may know, if you have been following around, each week we at Aces High take a look at one of the months of that war, and detail many of the events that happened during that month.  This week let’s take a look at October, 1941.

• 2^nd Operation Typhoon, an all-out offensive by Germany against Moscow.
• 3^rd Gandhi urges followers to begin passive resistance against British rule of India
• 7^th England and the RAF continue heavy bombings of Berlin, The Ruhr, and Cologne
• 8^th Germany reaches the Sea of Azov in their march towards Moscow, but heavy rains begin to slow the advance
• 10^th German soldiers encircle 600,000 Russian troops near Vyasma
• 12^th The HMS Ark Royal delivers a squadron of Hurricane fighter planes to Malta
• 13^th Germany again begins advance on Moscow as ground freezes
• 14^th heavy snows stop German advance on Moscow
• 16^th Russian government flees eastward to Samara; citizens in Moscow build anti-tank defenses as Germans approach
• 17^th The USS Kearney is torpedoed near Iceland; eleven sailors die, the first American casualties of the war.
• 17^th Prime Minister Konoye in Japan loses control of the country; war seems eminent.
• 18^th Russian reinforcements arrive in Moscow
• 19^th an official siege is announced in Moscow as Germany settles in outside the city
• 21^st New Zealand troops land in Egypt and take over Fort Capuzzo
• 21^st Negotiations between U.S. and Japan collapse
• 23^rd Rommel thwarts Operation Crusader near Tobruk
• 24^th Germany overruns Kharkov, and important Russian mining town
• 27^th German tanks are stopped by mud on the outskirts of Moscow
• 30^th President Roosevelt approves one billion dollar lend-lease aid to Russia
• 31^st USS Reuben James is sunk near Iceland, killing more than 100 U.S. Navy sailors.

Quite an eventful month in World War II, as Germany had high hopes but would soon fail in their advance on Moscow, and the U.S. and Japan headed towards that Day in Infamy in December.
