Installing and running offline missions[edit]
See the specific instructions for each mission above. (Different missions and different versions of Aces High demand different installation procedures.)
When using an older version of Aces High (such as the well-known version 2.12.4), the simplest missions consist only of a single .mis file. This should be copied into your offmiss folder. More sophisticated old missions include additional, optional files with map images (.BMP), audio sounds, background music, and radio banter (.WAV), etc.
When using a newer version of Aces High, you will need to download only a single .res file, which you will store in your "missres" folder. If the mission is simple, this .res file will be small. Large, complex missions will demand downloading a larger .res file (ranging up to or beyond about 15 megabytes).
Each published mission should include detailed instructions for locating, downloading, and installing all required and optional files. Look for those instructions (or links to those instructions) within or near the description of each offline mission. The simplest missions can be installed in just a few seconds. Even the most complex missions can be installed in less than 15 minutes if you have a good Internet connection with fast download capacity.
Some missions include a terrain (map) which you may not already have installed. To install the terrain, either run the Windows installed .exe if one is provided, or else just copy the .res file into your ahiiterr folder.
Some old missions, written for old versions of Aces High, do not include enough installation instructions to help you through special installation details if your Aces High installation is not in the default location (which is C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High\ ), so you may need to edit the .mis file. Open Windows Explorer, find your Aces High II\offmiss folder and open the .mis file in a text editor such as Notepad. Now do a replace (Edit > Replace in Notepad), changing each C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II\ to match your install location. Now save the .mis file. (Note - this is a temporary workaround only; this step will not be needed after a future Offline Mission Editor release, and well-designed old missions DO include installation details that will allow you to avoid this step by helping you install their optional, extra files in the standard locations even if your main Aces High executable files are someplace else.)
To run an offline mission, start Aces High, choose the terrain first, then, depending on the version of Aces High you are using, you will follow one of two sequences as follows:
1 of 2: When using older versions of Aces High such as V2.12.4, go to Offline Practice and select Practice Missions. You will then see the missions available for that terrain, with various options. Or....
2 of 2: When using newer versions of Aces High (Version 2.28.x and later), go to "Offline Practice" and select "Staged Missions". You will then see the missions available for that terrain, with their associated options.
