The British Sherman VC "Firefly" is very simply an "up gunned" version of the US M4 Sherman tank. The Firefly is armed with the Allies best anti-tank gun of the war: the British 76mm 17Pdr Q.F. Mk IV L/55, or just "17 Pdr" for short. In Aces High, it is the second most powerful tank gun that can be used against another tank. The only gun more powerful is the King Tiger's 88mm KwK43 L/71. Yes indeed, the British 17 Pdr can out perform the Tiger's 88mm and the Panther's 75mm in terms of AP ability, not by much but it does. Where the Firefly falls behind quickly is in armor, reload rate, and speed. The Firefly reloads every 8 seconds (3rd slowest in AH, only better than T34/76 and King Tiger), and it only moves at 20mph. It truly is a stand off weapon. A few other bits of information regarding the Firefly: it does not have a hull MG; the 17 Pdr HE round is rather weak, it take 3 shots to bring down a building; it has a 3X-6X variable gun sight with decent optical clarity; and thanks to its powerful gun it will cost you 7 perk points if you do not return it to the hanger. Since the introduction of the US M4A3 (W) 76mm tank, the Firefly has seen much less usage.
It is best used as a stand off tank destroyer, which is exactly how the British used the Firefly. Typically, British Cromwells or 75mm Shermans would lead the charge in to the German lines and when a German tank was encountered the Firefly was hastily brought forward to deal with the threat.
