Friday Squad Ops: "Operation Torch: Algiers 1942" - Fridays: May 1st, 8th, 15th in SEA1.
Frame Time: Fridays, 10PM EDT/3AM UTC
During Operation Torch on November 8, 1942, Allied forces landed around Algiers to seize the city from the authorities of Vichy France and secure a major port for the Allied advance across North Africa. In the early hours before the landings, local resistance members staged a coup that temporarily seized key government buildings and disrupted the Vichy command structure under Alphonse Juin, helping limit organized resistance when U.S. and British troops arrived. As the invasion began, Allied carrier aircraft and land-based planes clashed with Vichy French fighters and attacked nearby airfields, quickly gaining air superiority and destroying or damaging numerous aircraft on the ground and in the air, which prevented effective French air resistance to the landings.
This FSO intends to represent the furthest east landings of Operation Torch at Algiers, and a plausible situation if the Vichy French were able to put up a stiffer resistance
