I've loved history and especially aviation history my entire life, and since I was a kid that passion's been fed by a steady diet of books, museums, games (anyone remember Richtofen's War?)and movies. When we were growing up, my younger brother and I would imagine being able to hook two computers together and fly against each other...so when he mentioned this great game in 2004, there was no way I could avoid giving it a try. We flew together for a few months, but even though Life Ack pulled him away from the game not long after I couldn't stop playing. Throughout the long learning curve, even when absolute frustration seemed overwhelming the sheer joy and challenge of learning to manage 3D flying kept me from walking away.
Though I've been a strategy and tactical gamer for years, I'd never been good at simulators or first person shooters. Nothing seemed to come naturally for me in AH, but the passion kept me trying. Thanks to a lot of excellent teaching from guys like Widewing, Hammer, BadBoy, Murdr, and batfinkV == and a lot of experience practicing what they make look so easy == I've been able to gradually progress step by step all along the way. And I like nothing better than being able to "pay it forward" by tossing in what I've picked up when other guys are running into troubles.
I still stink at deflection shooting, though!
While I'm probably most at home in the Main Arenas, I enjoy flying special events and the Friday Squad Operations with the 332nd Flying Mongrels. It's been great to settle in with such a great group of guys! It's amazing to see how a group of middle aged gamers from across the county can develop into real life friends, who don't hesitate to go above an beyond the call.
