August 31, 2005 Aces High: Dev Update Our hopes and prayers go out to the victims of Hurricane Katrina and especially to all community members and their families who have been impacted by this disaster. We hope you are all safe.. August 31, 2005 Aces High: Dev Update We'd like to thank everyone who has helped us with the optimization test. We're very pleased with the overall results and are working to quickly correct some lingering issues and then get it released as version 2.05. We expect that to happen next week barring any problems with the few remaining details. Version 2.05 will just have the new optimization and some additional bug fixes. The Spitfires and 109s that are currently being updated won't be in this release as we've moved the release date up. However, it won't be long after 2.05 that we'll do another version release with the updated planes. We've decided that the next plane to be updated after the 109's and Spitfires is the B-17. The B-17 is a particularly old 3D model and it will actually require a ground up rebuild rather than a renovation. We've been focusing mainly on TOD planes as we do our renovations, but we expect that we will start making more eclectic choices about what planes to do next. We also want to get new plane production moving forward. Tour of Duty is progressively moving forward and it's our goal to begin closed alpha testing this month. This testing will focus on underlying components of TOD such as the AI or mission structure. When the various components are finished and put together, we'll progress to a beta that will be available to all subscribers and trial accounts. The purpose of the beta will be larger scale testing and play balancing. Once we're happy with those issues, we'll proceed forward with the official launch of the game. In other news, we are moving our servers to a new location this coming month. The purpose of the change is to provide our community with the best available connection to our servers. Because there is a long distance physical move involved, this process has required a lot of planning in order to avoid service disruption. We'll post more notices about the moves as we go forward.
